Roof cleaning certainly is not a “pressure washing” job. Stains on a roof are alive and infectious. Algae, mold and moss stains travel by air borne spores. The land everywhere indiscriminately on a roof but will grow faster on the shaded areas. Most people will notice the stains more on one side or another. The best defense against the stain returning is to treat the entire roofing area. We use a safe yet effective biodegradable detergent that will kill and dissolve black algae stains and kill moss instantly at the root.

Once we apply our detergent and the black stain is dissolved the detergent will quickly become inert. Cleaning detergents leave behind no residual toxicity. Salt based detergents are widely used in swimming pools, gym saunas and is also used by most local municipalities to treat tap water.

Detergents are approved by all major roof shingle manufacturers including GAF, the maker of the popular Timberline roof shingle. Any other detergent may or may not work but you can assure our detergent is designed for your roof. Ask us to provide a link directly to the website and see for yourself. Every roof cleaning we perform comes with our exclusive 3 Year Spot-Free Warranty; excluding areas of drainage and/or pitting or puddling areas on the roof. We know that if you fully sterilize all areas of the roof it will stay clean for many years to comes.

We take every effort to protect your home and landscape. We use ladder stabilizers the prevents the ladders from resting on the gutters. These are U-shaped bars with cushions on the ends of the U’s. This cushioned part rests on the roof and not the gutter. Not only does it protect the gutter it provides stability to the ladder. We want every roof cleaning project to be safe for all including our technicians. We take all steps to provide a safe OSHA approved work environment.

New Jersey Roof Moss Removal

Moss develops a root system just like a plant. This root system is what is preventing the moss to blow off with the wind and wash off with the rain. Moss is a docile vegetation and some may be loose. If the roof can be safely accessed we will blow off the loose moss before treatmCedar Roof With Mossent. Whatever does not easily blow off will be london17big-300x199treated. Our salt based chlorinated detergent will kill moss instantly at the root. Within minutes the roof moss will no longer be green but brown. The moss is left on the roof to dry out and decompose.

We do not scrape or pressure wash the moss. Pressure washing, scraping or scrubbing can dislodge many of the roofing granules and shorten the life of the roof. This process is similar to spraying weeds with weed killer on the sidewalk. If you’ve ever sprayed weeds or moss on a sidewalk you notice the stages where the moss dies, turns brown, dries out and eventually decomposes and washes away with rains. This is a similar process to the roof. Though we do not achieve instant gratification you can be assured the moss is dead at the root allowing the roof to stay clean for an extended period of time. If the moss is not killed at the root the problem is not solved. Pressure washing or scrubbing not only damages the shingle but only provides a short term solution.

New Jersey Roof Lichen Removal

Lichen is a growth of a fungus and an algae to make a super organism that literally eats through the shingle. The alleged food source is the lime in the roofing granules. If you have lichen patches on your roof you most likely also have them on the trees surrounding your property. Have fun and try to locate a patch of lichen on one of your trees. Challenge yourself to try and pick one off. You’ll find that it is unlikely you can pick it off without removing the tree bark itself. They attach themselves the same way to a roofing shingle. Therefore it is not wise to try and forcibly remove lichen patches with any type of aggressive agitation. Lichen cleaning from roofing shingles is similar to removing moss. Our specially formulated detergent will kill lichen on contacted. It is then left to dry out and decompose. Over time it will release little by little with each rain. This can be a very slow process. It can take on average 4 months for the dead lichen to release and wash away with rains.
